China Pollution
(REINHARD KRAUSE / REUTERS)

I have just read an article on the BBC that freaked me out.
The article is about how the Chinese Government has pressured the World Bank to cut from a report that they are preparing about China’s pollution the part that mentioned that:

…up to 760,000 people die prematurely each year in China because of air and water pollution.

I am aware that this kind of information might create panic but Chinese citizens deserve to know the truth. I think it’s enough. The Chinese Government have been deciding for their people without giving them the right to make their voice be heard for way too long.

I consider that the World Bank should not modify or cut information on their report. The World Bank is an international institution that must work for the people and for the global welfare specially in those countries affected by poverty, starvation and death.
One of their commitments should be total transparency.

After all the storm related with Wolfowitz I feel like I can’t trust the World Bank anymore not for this reason in particular but for this kind of information omissions.
