Thanks Mr. Yunus
Muhammad Yunus is an economist that 30 years ago tired of seeing how the banking system just worked for the richest ones decided to create a lending system by which poor people could take advantage of microcredits. This is how the Grameen Bank borned.
I am a business student and is really encouraging Mr. Yunus example. He has transform an impossible idea from the financial point of view; give small loans to poor people without any financial security just based in the trust and the good will.
This kind of acts prove that there is a different way of doing business. Having profits and helping others is not incompatible.
Yesterday Tomy pass me the link of an interesting site. That’s how I arrived to Kiva. They described themselves as the first person to person micro lending website. It is really simple. Making loans of as little of 25$ you can help and entrepreneur on the other side of the world. You can directly choose the entrepreneur you want to help and you can follow where is your money going. This money is used by the entrepreneur to buy items related with his business.
The sum of small acts is what makes the difference…sometimes when I realized how easy is my life and how privileged I am and in the other hand how millions of people suffer everyday due to hunger or sickness I just can’t handle it and I want to leave everything behind and go to those places and help. Then is when Tomy comes and tells me that we are privileged people and we should focus our helping desires in other ways…this is the way he means…we should use our capacity to help others. Most of the time is just more useful to stop and think what poor people really need. Canalize our resources in the right way.
Our 25$ may not stop poverty but it will help a cloth seller is Tajikistan have a better life and this is enough for me…for now.
